May the 4th be with you!

lake como

The next morning we took the train from Milan to Lake Como and arrived only 30 minutes later. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and I knew it would be a great day.

Como is the prettiest little town. I would definitely return to Lake Como just to stay here. There are so many little cafes and restaurants and everything just oozes Italian charm.

We took the ferry from Como to Tremezzo as we we’d heard such great things about The Grand Tremezzo Hotel and wanted to see it for ourselves. The ferry ride was two hours long but is such a great experience as you get to see all the little villages along the Lake. As the day was so sunny, we were able to sit on the deck on the ferry and enjoy looking into all the pretty villages and huge villas perched on the Lake, secretly hoping we might catch a glimpse of George Clooney along the way! I was also excited to get such a great view of Villa Balbianello, more famously known for being a filming location for movies like Stars Wars and more recently James Bond’s Casino Royale.

We arrived at Tremezzo port and walked the short walk along the Lake to The Grand Tremezzo Hotel.

It is spectacular and like nothing you have ever seen before. I couldn’t wait to explore it.

But first, we settled into a table in front of their floating pool at the beach club restaurant for lunch and cocktails. I knew Lake Como would be beautiful but sitting here admiring the view on a sunny day, it really is breath taking in person.

After lunch, we wandered through the hotel. It boasts panoramic views of Lake Como and is decorated perfectly. The hotel instantly feels like you’ve been transported back to another time.

We also explored Villa Carlotta which is right next door. For just nine euros, you can explore the villa and it’s massive gardens. We spent the afternoon strolling through the gardens admiring the views and the beautiful flowers.  I really love exploring old villas and imagining how the family used to live in them.

It was nearly time for us to head back to Como but first, we couldn’t resist paying a visit to the infamous village: Bellagio. We enjoyed the sunshine while sitting on the lake with some absolutely delicious gelato.
